The Baltimore Ravens have hired former Chargers OC and Dolphins head coach Cam Cameron to be their next offensive coordinator.
Cameron is a great fit in Baltimore who boasts a great RB/TE combination in Willis McGahee and Todd Heap. He took Tomlinson and Gates to the next level with his offensive system, and he turned Ronnie Brown's career around prior to the torn ACL. He also did a great job in SD developing both Drew Brees and Phillip Rivers into NFL QBs. Baltimore doesn't currently have a young QB to develop, so look for that to change this offseason, likely through the draft.
Fantasy Impact: Willis McGahee owners, rejoice. After coaching both LaDainian Tomlinson and Ronnie Brown, he'll bring his offensive system to Willis McGahee. He's coordinated a great rushing attack wherever he's been, and that figures to continue. McGahee saw increased productivity in the passing game last season (43 catches last year compared to 68 combined his first 3 seasons), and Cameron will likely take advantage of getting McGahee into space as he's far more effective there than as a battering ram like Buffalo tried to use him. Both LT and Brown were used quite often as pass catchers for his offense. Not only that, but both LT and Brown posted very good YPCs despite not always having a great line in front of them, so I expect McGahee's productivity to rise as well in the YPC department.
This is also great news for Todd Heap. Cameron coached the emergence of Antonio Gates, but he didn't have anything resembling Gates in Miami last season. Heap is a great all-around TE when he's on the field, so expect a rebound season from Heap, who will probably be undervalued in FF drafts next season. Cameron has never coach an explosive passing attack before, however, but has a reliable vet in Mason and a downfield threat in Clayton at his disposal. Their values will be tied closer to what happens to the QB situation.
